What a difference a year makes. The Atlanta Braves are back in the playoffs, assured at least a wildcard berth after defeating the Marlins with a two run homer by Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the ninth inning as a trip back to the post season is guaranteed with the hard fought win. Trailing 3-2, Chipper Jones led off the ninth with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and walked home as Freeman`s blast easily cleared the center field fence as the home crowd went wild in celebration.
Whether the Braves can catch the first place Washington Nationals is yet to be seen, trailing by four games with eight to play is a difficult task, but stranger things have happened, just ask the Braves who last year had an eight and a half game lead in the first week of September only to lose the wildcard berth on the last day of the season to the St. Louis Cardinals in heartbreaking fashion. This year will afford no such let-down as the Braves have kept pace down the stretch with an impressive display of hitting and pitching. Let`s make Chipper Jones final year something to celebrate, all the way to a world series title would do justice for a man who has meant so much to this franchise and it`s fans as well...!
