Oktoberfest...Tis once again time to raise thy mug!

The world`s largest fair kicks off today as the annual Oktoberfest celebration begins at 12 noon in Munich, Germany with Mayor Christian Ude tapping of the first keg getting the festivities underway. With an expected crowd of over 6 million, the 16 day event can expect to see the thirsty revelers consume some 8 million or so mugs of beer, over a half million chickens, and the traditional doughy pretzels in numbers too high to be counted. 

     Starting out as a wedding party just over two hundred years ago for Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to celebrate his royal marriage, the huge public gathering was such a success that it became an annual event that has stood the test of time. Over the years it has grown in size and shape and today is known worldwide for its enormous mugs of beer, oompah music, men clad in traditional Bavarian Lederhosen leather shorts and women in low cut flowing costumes.
